
Boba Oppa, a new boba chain lacking clear goals and direction, turned to Okii Studio for a 360 brand launch that blew expectations out of the water.
We were presented with the name “Boba Oppa,” a bold purple vibe, and the owners' words, “A unique handcrafted-boba shop that feels like another dimension in the supermarket.” So, before the ball started rolling, Okii Studio explored deep into market research. We dived into the boba, food, and beverage scene, pinpointed pain points, tapped into demographic insights, and created a strategy to make sure Boba Oppa stands out in a crowded market while building strong brand awareness—especially for those Gen Alpha and Gen Z unfamiliar with boba drinks—from the start.

Brand Identity
Why not create a bold, playful brand that brings the fun of handcrafted boba to life? “Oppa” means both “older brother” in Korean and an expression of “joy” in Hebrew. We took inspiration from the Eastern culture to develop a fun brand identity tailored for the American market, specifically targeting Gen Alpha, Gen Z, and young millennials. With vibrant visuals, freehand shapes, experimental typography, and K-pop-inspired imagery, the drinks become the true “idols,” creating a dynamic and surreal identity that’s as exciting as the boba itself.

Signature Drink Development
Given the recipes you’d find in any existing boba shop, Okii Studio gave Boba Oppa’s drinks a fresh twist for those new to boba. Based on regional marketing research, we developed drinks that taste impressive and capture Boba Oppa’s bold, playful vibe and culture. We wanted to ensure that the textures and toppings were perfect for both newcomers and boba enthusiasts, allowing everyone to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed while also providing a sense of familiarity.

Storefront
Partnering up with Ringo Studio, our goal was to craft a storefront design that would serve as the foundation for all future Boba Oppa locations. We experimented with bold, abstract shapes and vibrant colors to reflect Boba Oppa brand’s quirky, playful, and minimalist vibe. A key highlight is the content wall, which brings Boba Oppa’s signature graphic element to life—it's inspired by the idea of wiping condensation off a cup to reveal the drink inside. It serves as a photo wall that people can interact with.




Staff Onboarding
Happy employees ⇄ happy operation. Okii Studio and our parent Company, Formula Arts, helped guide general managers and ensured company culture was instilled among all employees. To encourage Boba Oppa's staff to express themselves freely while practicing company culture, we created a fun, engaging employee handbook that covered all the key protocols—no boring Google Docs with just plain text here!

Packaging
We collaborated with our manufacturing partner to develop a drink carrier and cup made entirely from 100% heavy-duty recycled materials. Our objective was to create durable products that keep your drinks secure and prevent spills, all while promoting sustainability. Enjoy some delicious boba while making a positive impact on the planet and your community—why not?

Working closely with the former general manager of Boba Oppa to create a functional design for the back of each Boba Oppa cup. Each graphic on the cup is designed to serve as a measurement line to beverage assembly. Each measurement line is spaced out at 100ml distance. To us, details matter!

Website
The Boba Oppa website captures the brand’s energy in a fun, interactive way. We strategized it from A to Z, ensuring every detail feels fresh and engaging. With unexpected, playful interactions and in-depth product stories, we made sure the online experience matches the same fun vibe as being at Boba Oppa IRL. A smooth purchase flow—from the homepage to the menu and the navigation bar, all seamlessly connected to Boba Oppa's POS system—makes ordering quick and easy. And for those curious about what’s in their cup, we added explainer pages for the handcrafted boba and each signature drink.


Social Content
We developed and produced dynamic video content to generate buzz around the brand launch. On day one, we drove 4K+ visits to the website and reached 46K+ people across social media. The numbers speak for themselves—our approach hit the mark, creating real brand awareness from the get-go.







Brand Launch Activities
To create unique experiences on a minimal budget and allow people to connect with Boba Oppa in fresh and fun ways, Okii Studio developed interactive games like the ”Scarventure Hunt.” In this game, players searched for a hidden coin on Boba Oppa’s website to redeem free drinks. Additionally, we designed custom interactive signage for passersby and new customers to engage with the brand. Users had the opportunity to earn future buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deals by following Boba Oppa on social media. Paired with strategic marketing and exceptional customer service, these efforts resulted in a 200% boost in sales.



We executed gorilla marketing by creating premium stickers to post around target demographic areas, such as schools, universities, and shopping centers to spark curiosity. People were able to collect various designs to bring buzz around the the first store opening.

Although the owners became haters of their own brand, Okii Studio created a company blueprint, brand identity, and operational strategy for Boba Oppa, enabling replication across all future locations, and smoothly handed off to the internal team for ongoing journey.
